Lima, Ohio (WIMA) - The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind those that own and operate bicycles that while you’re enjoying yourself- it’s important to keep safety in mind.

It’s critical that everyone wear a helmet while riding a bike- as head injury is the leading cause of bicycle-related deaths.

All bicyclists should also follow these rules of the road- ride on the right side of the road- obey traffic signs and signals- and wear reflective clothing and making sure you bike has a headlight and rear reflector.

These points are being brought up in light of a recent accident where a teen on a bike was struck and killed by a driver who could not see him due to glaring sunlight at dusk.
