A Legendary Radio DJ Has died. #RIP BobKingsley

When Casey Kasem found success with 'American Top 40' across the USA on radio stations "From Coast to Coast", it soon became obvious that the same countdown format that captured millions of listeners attention waiting to hear the weeks #1 song, would also work in the Country music format. Watermark, the company that produced AT40 and was owned in part by host Kasem searched for the perfect "VOICE" to deliver the weekly Billboard Country Chart. Enter Bob Kingsley. Just like his Top 40 counterpart, Bob became part of life in America. His easy to listen to delivery and deep knowledge of Country artists cemented Bob as a Nashville fixture even producing his weekly show at his ranch in Texas.

It's with a heavy heart that I share this news about the GREAT Bob Kingsley today.

Country radio veteran Bob Kingsley, host of “Bob Kingsley’s Country Top 40” has passed away at the age of 80. Kingsley’s death comes a week after the longtime countdown host revealed that he was suffering from bladder cancer and was stepping away from his Westwood One-distributed weekend program to receive treatment.

When making the announcement about his diagnosisearlier this month, Kingsley posted to his website: “I have always prided myself in delivering the truth to you—my friends in the country music industry, my fellow radio broadcasters, and all of the loyal listeners around the world—and today, well, todaythe truth does not come in the form of a story behind the song, or anything else, but in the reality of what is going on with yours truly,” Kingsley wrote. “While there is no doubt that the immediate road ahead will push me and challenge my resolve, I want you to know I am blessed to be working with the very best in the medical profession, and they have a plan to deal with this awful disease.”

Kingsley was inducted into the Country Radio Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 1998 and the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2016. He was at his home in Weatherly, TX when he died.

A celebration of the life of Bob Kingsley will be held in Nashville on Nov. 14 at the CMA Theater in the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. In lieu of flowers, the Kingsley family asks that donations be made in Bob Kingsley’s name to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and the Grand Ole Opry Trust Fund.
