New gun laws taking effect in Ohio on Tuesday are expanding where people can carry concealed guns.
One of those changes includes the employee parking lot carry, which means concealed carry owners can store their gun in the car while they are at work. As of right now, people can be terminated for doing that.
You will also be able to bring a gun into a daycare, provided they don't have a no-gun policy. If the daycare puts up a 'NO guns' sign on the premise they would have to leave it locked in a car.
Another change allows gun owners to store their gun in their car while in a school zone.
Also, at airports concealed carry owners will be able to drop off travelers and even go to back to baggage claims in non-secured areas.
Joe Eaton, with the Buckeye Firearms Association, said his group pushed for the changes in the law.
"It's currently a felony and that's where we ran into a problem because a lot of people don't know if their kids are going to be called sick from school," he said. "They may be at work, and they have their firearm, and they would have to go home first and dispose of the gun at their house before going back and picking up the kids. There was a lot of honest people just trying to stay in line with the law."
Eaton said these laws will bring Ohio in line with neighboring states like Kentucky and Indiana.
He said now his members won't get fired for storing their guns in their car to go hunting after work.
