Florida man steals sausage, jumps off bridge to avoid arrest

A Florida man allegedly stole sausage from a grocery store and then jumped off a bridge to avoid being arrested, police said. 

David Randall Bertram, 41, was detained in Fort Walton Beach after police say he stole $10.38 worth of summer sausage from Publix, according to Northwest Florida Daily News. 

While Bertram was being escorted to the police car, he took off. He ran through a neighborhood, across lanes of highway traffic and onto the Brooks Bridge, the Daily News reported. 

“He then jumped off the bridge and to the ground, approximately 7 to 8 feet below,” police said.

But even that didn’t stop Bertram. Officers had to use their tasers twice before he was captured, the Daily News reported.

Bertram was charged with providing a false name while lawfully detained, shoplifting and resisting an officer without violence.
