The execution of an 83-year-old Alabama man was briefly put on hold by the U.S. Supreme Court yesterday – before it was carried out last night. And now, Walter Moody is the oldest American in modern history to be executed.
Moody was convicted of the mail-bomb death of a U.S. Circuit Court judge in Minnesota in 1989. An Alabama jury convicted him of capital murder five years later and he was put on the state's death row. Moody was also convicted by a federal jury in Minnesota for the 1991 killing of Judge Robert Vance with a mail bomb in 1989. Another mailed explosive killed Georgia civil rights attorney Robert Robinson to confuse investigators in 1989. Two other packages were intercepted.
