Top 10 best cities to bring in the New Year

  • WalletHub has just come out with their list of the Best Places to Celebrate New Year’s Eve, looking at 100 of the biggest cities based on things like Entertainment and Food, Costs and Safety and Accessibility
  • New York City tops the list, ranking number one in food and entertainment, but 100th for costs
  • Garland, Texas, is the worst place to celebrate NYE, ranking 98th for food and entertainment and 90th for safety and accessibility 

Celebrating the New Year is different for everyone. There are those who just like to stay in and do nothing, others who just go out with friends, and then there are those who like to do it up right, with a fancy party or celebration. Well, if you’re in the ladder, it seems there are some cities where you’re bound to have a better time than others.

WalletHub has just come out with their list of the Best Places to Celebrate New Year’s Eve, looking at 100 of the biggest cities based on 28 key indicators in categories like Entertainment and Food, Costs and Safety and Accessibility.

Not surprising, New York City, where folks gather in Times Square to watch the ball drop, tops the list, with a score of 69.27 and ranking number one in food and entertainment, and 23 in safety and accessibility. Of course, that good time isn’t going to come cheap, with NYC coming in dead last, at 100, for cost.

  2. Los Angeles, CA
  3. Atlanta, GA
  4. San Diego, CA
  5. Las Vegas, NV
  6. Denver, CO
  7. Orlando, FL
  8. Chicago, IL
  9. Washington, DC
  10. San Francisco, CA 

On the flipside, Garland, Texas, is the worst place to celebrate NYE, scoring a 32.94, and ranking 98th for food and entertainment and 90th for safety and accessibility.

Among the other survey results:

  • Virginia Beach, Virginia and Durham, North Carolina have the cheapest average price ticket for a NYE party, while New Orleans has the most expensive.
  • New York City and Las Vegas have the most nightlife options per capita, thirty times more options than Garland, Texas, which has the least.
  • New York City also has the most dining options, with Aurora, Colorado having the least.
