In a verydisturbing story, customs officials at the Port of Miami ended up seizing over a million dollarsworth of dried shark fins. According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, inspectors found 18 boxes that were filled with these shark fins that they believe originated in South America. The fins were likely on there way to China as the fins are typically used to make shark fin soup, which is a delicacy in China for its perceived medicinal properties. Officials say the fins likely come from the illicit practice, called shark finning, involves fishermen slicing the fins off before throwing the live shark back in the water. Unable to swim, the sharks either suffocate or bleed to death. They say it's one of the most heinous crimes in nature they have ever seen. An investigation is on-going.
